Creators With Courage
Our Voices Matter
I listened to one of the essays in The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates as I drove home from a play in Seattle last week. He writes about the importance of creativity as one way to change the world. Earlier this year, I listened to Alexander Navalny’s book, Patriot. He displayed bravery and even humor as the Russian state slowly and inexorably murdered him. These people inspire the heck out of me. I am also a writer, and contributed a piece to an anthology that was designed to warn readers about the incoming Trump administration. I hesitated before I hit submit. But I did it, and the story is out (In B-Cubed Press’s anthology Alternative Liberties, edited by Bob Brown).
I recently noted in my journal that writers and artists and other creatives can breed courage in these times. We can support each other. And we need to act. So this is a little bit of how I intend to act.
I plan to use this feed to periodically point out the bravery of creatives. I expect to post weekly, at most. Sometimes I’ll offer news about me or my friends, or politics. If you are inspired by the courage of other creatives, this will be one place to find inspiration.

I love the idea of highlighting the bravery of creatives. I’m currently trying to produce a small dance theater piece and it’s amazing how much courage it takes just to put the work out into the world.
Its a beautiful initiative. Our work as creatives is definitely helping change the narrative
